Deploying to a cyclone impacted Far North Queensland presented some new logistical challenges for Humanihut to overcome, with damage to roads making point-to-point delivery impossible for road trains.

Thanks to a collaborative approach between Federal, State and local governments, and the involvement of The Australian Defence Force, Humanihut was able to deliver shelter to Ayton through a combination of Chinook helicopter, Army and privately contacted barges, and local heavy lifting equipment and trucks.

All of this was done when the region was still receiving upwards of 100mm of rain daily, making the task just that little bit trickier. Road surfaces were washed away and the ground was sodden in most areas.

The Humanihut team faced every hurdle with a positive mindset and worked on immediate practical solutions in order to deliver the facilities that were required to support the relief effort.
